Performance Requirements for Safeguarding

This standard provides performance requirements for the design, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of the risk reduction measures listed below when applied to machines. • inherently safe by design (see clause 7);
• engineering controls – guards (see clause 8);
• engineering controls – control functions (see clause 9);
• engineering controls – devices (see clause 10);
• administrative controls (see clause 11).

This standard does not provide the requirements for the selection of the risk reduction measure for a particular application.
